The Miss BC World contest was created in 2005. 〔"Meghan Feenstra - seeking the crown", ''The Aldergrove Star'', July 28, 2005. pg. 6.〕 For the first Miss BC World contest, held on July 30, 2005, there were 12 girls from across the province competing for the title. The contestants competed in categories such as: private interview, evening gown, speech presentations, tourism presentations, and talent presentations. The winner of the Miss BC World 2005 pageant, Sasha Abunnadi, represented British Columbia at the Miss World Canada contest in July 2006, won the Best in Interview award and a placing in the top 15.〔("Teen pageant: Program encourages young ambassadors" ), ''Langley Advance'', March 14, 2006.〕 The Miss World Canada pageant will be held in Toronto.
